Islamic summit thanks Kuwait for hosting Yemeni talks
The 13th summit session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Summit has expressed gratitude to the State of Kuwait for hosting inter-Yemeni conciliation talks, slated on April 18th.
The draft communique of the summit, due to kick off later today, also hailed the UN efforts and Kuwait's humanitarian aid for the Yemenis as well as its political efforts to restore security to Somalia.
Moreover, the draft statement lauded Kuwait's hosting of three international conferences for raising donations for the Syrians -- in 2013, 2014 and 2015 -- and its active participation in the fourth convention, held at this level in London, the UK, on February 4th, 2016.
The conference expressed deep gratitude to the states and organizations that had pledged during these gatherings to secure USD 11 billion to aid the Syrians and manifested deep concern for the tragic conditions suffered by Syrian refugees.
It congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for his designation by the UN as the "Humanitarian Leader" in September 2014, as recognition of his leading role in the humanitarian field.
Furthermore, it called for supporting Kuwait's nomination as a member of the Security Council for 2018-2019.
