Libyan parliament elects new PM

The Libyan parliament elected in the second reading Sunday Ahmad Maiteeq as Prime Minister to succeed Abdullah Thani, with 121 votes.

Maiteeq won 113 votes in the first reading, seven votes short of needed number, or 120. He then won the parliament's backing in the second reading, parliament spokesman Ali Humaidan told KUNA.

Maiteeq was sworn in after winning the house's confidence, he said, and was asked to form a cabinet within the next 15 days.
