World Health Assembly "great platform" to discuss health issues - Al Ghunaim
Next week's World Health Assembly will provide a great platform for Kuwait to highlight regional health issues, which is one of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development goals, Kuwait's permanent delegate to the UN Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim told KUNA, on Wednesday.

Kuwaiti Minister of Health Dr. Saad Al-Obaidi will participate in the meeting that will take place in Geneva on May 23-28..

Al-Ghunaim said that Kuwait will focus on "ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages" in the Middle East region and will discuss the negative impact of noncommunicable diseases such as obesity and diabetes.

Al-Ghunaim lauded efforts made by WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan in dealing with health emergencies in the region, especially health crises that face the Syrian refugees.

The Health Assembly is the supreme decision-making body of WHO. It is attended by delegations from all WHO Member States. Its main functions are to determine the policies of the Organization, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed program budget.
