Kuwaiti official: we strive to grant women full rights
Kuwait strives to grant women full political, economic and social rights, a Kuwaiti official said on Wednesday, noting that the country's constitution does not discriminate between genders.

Secretary General of the Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development (SCPD) Dr. Khaled Al-Mahdi made the remarks in a speech at a United Nations Development Program (UNDP) forum on 5th goal of UN Sustainable Development Goals regarding women empowerment.

In line with Kuwait's aspirations for sustained development, the country has attached great priority to women's rights, Al-Mahdi said.

Local laws do not discriminate between genders, Al-Mahdi said, noting that Kuwait ranks first amongst Arab nations on women's rights.

Moreover, Al-Mahdi said that Kuwait is hard at work to narrow the social gap between men and women, while making sure that both genders get equal opportunities.

Meanwhile, UN Development Program Resident Representative Zainab Benjelloun outlined the forum's goal of having parity between both genders.

The UN also seeks to give women access to all healthcare services as well as economic and social rights, Benjelloun added.
