Creativity key for development of literary writing - Kuwaiti writer
Kuwaiti Writer Nermin Al-Houti has underlined the importance of creativity in the development of different literary writings, especially fiction.

Speaking at a symposium, themed "Writers' Journey Towards Creativity" and held on the sidelines of the Sharjah Children's Reading Festival (SCRF), Al-Houti stated that the journey of a writer for a creative works starts with asking a number of questions (how, where and why?) and answering them.

Each writer has his/her own way for creativity, and even if the approach of some writers may be similar in certain features, they are always unique and closely related to the artist himself/herself, she said.

She noted that a writer's journey towards creativity must begin with summarizing what he/she saw and what he/she read about.

The writer must also have a creative imagination to produce a high-quality literary piece, she said.

She stressed that the writer must read much about the topic he/she wants to write about and do the necessary research as well as interacting with different segments and parts of the society.

"All these are only the information stored in his/her mind and recalled it when he/she thinks about it and starts writing." Al-Houti said that the writer begins his/her writing journey with a clear purpose in mind or to imitate the reality.

She added that the writer when he/she depicts characters of the literary work must introduce them through three dimensions, namely physical, social and psychological.

Creative writers are those who draw their characters in an attractive way to convey their idea to the reader, she said.

She noted that the writers' journey ends when their literary products reach the hands of the reader to read his/her new ideas.

The Sharjah Children Reading Festival brings together a large number of authors of children's books under one roof and is a cultural gathering for more than 120 publishers globally and locally to offer their books for reading, she said, noting that the event would conclude late this month.

The Sharjah Children's Reading Festival (SCRF) is a fun-packed, entertainment-filled 11 days of discovery, creativity and excitement. Some of the world's best children's authors descend upon the Sharjah Expo Centre, reading their popular works and meeting their fans; alongside more than 120 international and local publishers who offer their books for sale.

The aim of SCRF is to promote a love of reading amongst young and old, showcase Arab literature to the world and give illustrators and artists alike the chance to feature their intricate works. The SCRF also provides a great place for fellow authors and publishing houses/publishers to network and interact.
