Arab Group pleased with UNSC reform, expansion debate
Kuwait, representing the Arab Group, has hailed the UN's efforts on holding debates to discuss expansion and reform in the UN Security Council (UNSC).

The recent international developments mainly in the Arab World, are posing a challenge to the international community, said Kuwait's Permanent Envoy to the UN Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi in a speech at the UN's meeting on the reforms late Monday.

The UNSC is exerting huge efforts to expand and develop its work methods to deal with different challenges in a neutral and transparent manner, said the ambassador.

The international community's conditions have changed prominently since the establishment of the UN in 1945, he added.

Meanwhile, he stressed on the importance of granting Arab states with a permanent seat in the future formation of the council, due to the big numbers of Arab World issues the UNSC looks into.

Moreover, he noted that the number of Arab member-states has risen from five to 22 since 1945.
