Libyan court dissolves parliament

The Constitutional Circuit at the Libyan Supreme Court on Thursday dissolved the parliament elected last June, a ruling based on the invalidity of the interim constitutional declaration whereby the elections were held.
The court ruled on Thursday to accept the appeal regarding the illegality of developments leading to the elections of the parliament, Head of the Supreme Court Kaal Dahan said.
The parliament took refuge in the city of Tobruk, about 1,000 east of the capital Tripoli, since its first session on August 4.
The international community recognized the parliament then and the ensuing elected government.
The General National Congress will accept the court decision, Second Vice President Saleh Mohammed Almakhzoum, said in a press conference.
Some MPs, many Islamists, boycotted the Tobruk sessions and requested the court to decide on the constitutionality of the June vote.
